FRESHMAN YEAR
___ Plan your tentative high school program with your guidance counselor. Concentrate on the academics (English, social studies, math, science, and foreign language). Many colleges count only academic units when evaluating applicants. Students who take more difficult courses have an advantage.
___ Get involved in extra curricular activities you like, not just those you think will look good on your application. Colleges would rather see you truly involved in a few activities rather than scattered all over the place.
SOPHOMORE YEAR
___ Continue with your academic coursework.
___ Speak with your counselor. If you are a strong student, you may consider taking the PSAT. It is good practice for the real thing next year.
